The PREIT-tour research group, in collaboration with World Heritage City, has been awarded 🏆 the 22nd Call of the Vice-Rectorate for Research with the project:
“Unveiling the dynamics of short-term rental accommodation through digital platforms (Airbnb) from a multi-actor perspective in World Heritage intermediate cities: an approach to the Historic Centre of Cuenca.”
The project will run from March 2026 to February 2027 📅 and will focus on analyzing the impact of short-term tourist rentals—particularly through digital platforms such as Airbnb 🏠💻—in an intermediate city designated as a World Heritage Site 🌍, using the Historic Centre of Cuenca as a case study.
The research adopts a multi-actor perspective 🤝, bringing together residents, property owners, public administrators, the tourism sector, and other key stakeholders. The aim is to understand how these dynamics affect the social, economic, and urban fabric 🏙️, and to generate valuable knowledge for sustainable heritage management, urban planning, and evidence-based public policymaking 📊.
This third consecutive project win further strengthens the positioning of PREIT-tour and World Heritage City as leading references in tourism and heritage research 🧠✨, consolidating their commitment to applied, critical research with real social impact.
